Accidental Heroes

WHAT would you do if confronted with someone else's life or death emergency situation? Accidental Heroes is a talkbackTHAMES production for BBC One – a brand new series that meets those with truly heroic qualities. Accidental Heroes shines the spotlight on ordinary people who go to extraordinary lengths to help others. A six-part series celebrating the everyday people who step into the breach – often acting on instinct and always acting selflessly – to save a life and to become an 'accidental hero'. Each episode features three stories which show just what happened before the emergency services arrived at the scene of an accident. In addition to hearing from the heroes, the survivors and the witnesses, dramatic reconstructions of life threatening incidents and astounding real life footage that captures death defying moments, bring these stories to life.

Series highlights include:

•	A group of cricketers put their team spirit to good use to save a woman being crushed under a car, following a horrific road traffic accident.
•	A schoolteacher races to reach a man who’s fallen 200 feet in the Welsh mountains, and then uses his ingenuity to bring him back to life.
•	A group of surfing friends fight raging currents and treacherous seas, and use their surfboards to keep a woman alive against all the odds.

This series also features amazing rescues by children such as a brother who saves his sister who has accidentally strangled herself, and a boy who carries his best friend to get help after he collapses with potentially fatal injuries. But perhaps the most incredible stories featured in the series draw on real footage shot at the time of the events themselves, including:

•	The skydiver plummeting to earth when his parachute fails to open. His and his friend’s helmetcams capture the whole heart-stopping event.
•	The group of holiday-makers learning to sail a tall ship across the Atlantic suddenly find themselves on a rescue mission when they pick up a distress signal from two girls in severe trouble in a storm.
•	A Formula 3 racing driver fights to release his rival, trapped in a burning car after a spectacular mid-race crash. The event is filmed by a member of the crowd.
