HAVING tackled treks across the UK, Julia has embarked on a truly grand adventure in South Africa Walks. This outstanding programme takes in some amazing sights that have rarely been seen on camera.
A regular visitor to the ‘Rainbow Nation’, Julia set out on four very different walks to explore South Africa’s claim to be a ‘world in one country’. Venturing beyond the usual tourist destinations, she explored a series of increasingly remote locations:
The Garden Route
For her first walk, Julia, along with her Xhosa guide, Willie, followed the southernmost coastline of Africa, home to the sun-drenched Garden Route. Exploring the fabulous beaches and immense flora and fauna, Julia encountered research set to show that this abundant spot gave rise to the modern human race.

Upping the ante Julia headed out on foot to the one of the world’s most famous game reserves. This was a walking adventure among the biggest and most dangerous beasts in Africa. Here she was looked after by Jaco, an expert game ranger, who proved that the Kruger is far more than just big cats and elephants.
The Green Kalahari
The final walk took Julia to the edge of the Kalahari Desert, in the remote north west corner of South Africa. Set against the stunning red geology of Augrabies National Park, it’s a stark but beautiful walk, encountering simple rural lives and remarkable agriculture, all utterly reliant on the broad waters of the Orange River.
South Africa Walks offers a fresh and very personal perspective on a friendly and fascinating country that is so often misunderstood.
