Wainwright Walks : Feedback

Dear Miss Julia Bradbury

I FELT that I had to write to you to thank you and to congratulate you on your wonderful series Wainwright Walks. I have been going to the Lakes for over 70 years, this year I will be 87 and still drive up there when ever I get the chance.
You do not sit in a studio telling us how nice the Lakes are, you get out and show us with such enthusiasm and skill that, we, the viewers feel we are with you on the mountains. I like the way you mention your TV crew, looking at some of the shots your cameraman is a true artist, you have a very engaging smile that lights you up with joy when you reach the top, this enthusiastically brings we viewers in to the picture with you!
You do something else that most likely do not know about; I served in the Guards as a Tank Driver/Gunner with the D-Day invasion during WW2. We fought from Normandy to Germany and I was wounded twice and smashed up once. I had the great privilege of giving these poor people ‘their freedom’ back – the most wonderful thing a man could do in the whole of his life. It breaks my heart on reading the press how the people in power have used the ‘freedom’ we gave them, but to see a young girl like yourself showing us all with great pride just what a beautiful country we live in renews my faith in our people, thank you!
To that may I just add that there are very many young men and women of this beautiful country in their graves that would say if they could, that you as a presenter help them to understand that what they did was ‘so worthwhile’.

We thank God for people like you, who do a much bigger and better job than you ever thought, on behalf of a shrinking number of WW2 ex-servicemen and women. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

May God bless you and give you the strength to carry on showing our people how lucky we are to live here, and show them as you do how to deal with the freedom we gave them.

My kindest regards to you and your crew — Tony
